Voiceover performers have a stronger voice with AFTRA


With AFTRA, voiceover performers across the country have a stronger voice to win better rates and fees, benefits, and working conditions for work in commercials, narration, animation, promo announcements, audio books, videogames, basic cable programming, and other areas.

For the second year in a row, AFTRA is proud to be a Premier Sponsor of the Voiceover International Creative Experience (VOICE 2008)—a conference dedicated exclusively to the art and business of voiceover at The Hyatt Regency Century Plaza in Los Angeles from August 8 to 11.

AFTRA was a Premiere Sponsor of the inaugural event, VOICE 2007, held in Las Vegas last year, where AFTRA Los Angeles hosted the very successful "An Evening with Don LaFontaine."

“VOICE 2008 will be an extraordinary opportunity for AFTRA and all convention participants,” said Mathis L. Dunn, Jr., AFTRA Assistant National Executive Director for Commercials, Non-Broadcast, and Interactive Media. “During the four-day conference, AFTRA members can interact one-on-one with future AFTRA members and share with them how being an AFTRA member is critical to a successful career in the voiceover industry, how being a union member can assist them in making wise and critical decisions about their careers going forward.”

VOICE 2008 kicks off with a Red Carpet Celebrity Networking Reception on Thursday evening, August 7; many stars in the voiceover world will be attending along with LA-area agents and casting directors. Later on Friday, August 8, AFTRA hosts an evening of information and entertainment for all attendees.

The event includes a lineup of AFTRA presenters and panelists from the voiceover community. Some of the top AFTRA voiceover performers in the world—including Pat Fraley, Randy Thomas, Chris Allport, MJ Lallo, Lee Marshall, Beverly Bremers, Richard Horvitz, and Marc Graue—teach break-out and general sessions over the four days, speaking on a wide variety of subjects designed to cover the three objectives of the conference: education, technology, and community.

Three panel discussions are also set for the conference:

• AFTRA member Bob Bergen hosts a panel of Hollywood’s top agents, casting directors, and producers who’ll discuss The Business of the Business.
• AFTRA member Joe Cipriano hosts a Promo Panel with nationally known panelists including AFTRA members Beau Weaver, Paul Pape, Kat Cressida, Townsend Coleman, Stew Herrera, and Melissa Disney.
• A professional’s panel, hosted by national voice talent and AFTRA member Peter Rofè, includes several voiceover talent, authors, talent agents, casting directors, and an entertainment attorney.

AFTRA members receive a discount of $50 when they register using the code TRA2008. Day passes are available for $225 per day. A Celebrity Banquet is also planned for August 10 featuring AFTRA radio greats Dick Orkin and Christine Coyle of the Famous Radio Ranch.
