Voiceover Celebrity and AFTRA Member Don LaFontaine
to Appear at VOICE 2007 Convention in Las Vegas
“An Evening with Don LaFontaine” to be hosted by AFTRA Los Angeles
LOS ANGELES, CA (March 23, 2007)—Longtime AFTRA member and celebrity voiceover performer Don LaFontaine will appear as a featured guest at the VOICE 2007 VoiceOver International Creative Experience in Las Vegas, Nevada. The American Federation of Television and Radio Artists is a premier sponsor for this first annual international convention intended to help voiceover talent to become more effective performers, more skilled communicators, and more savvy business people.
Famous for recording nearly 350,000 commercials, programs, files, and other presentations, and almost 5,000 movie trailers, Mr. LaFontaine is scheduled to address more than 200 voiceover convention attendees on Thursday, March 29, at “An Evening with Don LaFontaine” sponsored by the AFTRA Los Angeles Local.
Speaking to an audience of voiceover performers, vocal coaches, and industry representatives, Mr. LaFontaine will share his story, experiences, professional advice, and the important benefits professional performers receive as members of AFTRA.
“I have been a member of AFTRA for over 40 years,” said Mr. LaFontaine. “For much of that time, I was unaware of what my union was doing on my behalf behind the scenes—but in recent years I have seen first hand the hard work and dedication of the people who represent me, and all the others who belong to AFTRA. My admiration and respect for AFTRA and AFTRA members cannot be overstated.”
The evening event starts at 6 p.m. at the Palace Station Hotel--and will begin with an onstage conversation with VOICE 2007 organizers James Alburger, Penny Abshire, Frank Frederick, and emcee Dave Courvoisier, followed by an open question-and-answer opportunity for attendees, and ending with a reception where voiceover performers can meet Mr. La Fontaine face-to-face. Attendees will also be treated to samples of Mr. LaFontaine’s extensive archive of work.
“AFTRA is honored that Don has so graciously agreed to lend his talent and share his union experiences with the participants of the first international convention for voiceover performers,” said Mathis L. Dunn, Jr., Assistant National Executive Director for Commercials, Non-Broadcast, and Interactive Media. “As a member for over 40 years, Don can provide the attendees with a view of the industry from the perspective of a union member. For a performer of Don's caliber to take personal time to share his expertise and stories of his extraordinary success makes him the perfect AFTRA ambassador. It is members like Don who enable AFTRA and AFTRA voiceover performers to have a strong voice.”
