STATEMENT OF SUPPORT FOR THE NATIONAL COALITION ON HEALTHCARE (NCHC) SPECIFICATIONS
FOR HEALTH CARE REFORM
July
20, 2004 - The report released today by the National Coalition
on Health Care, "Building a Better Health Care System: Specifications
for Reform," should be required reading for all Americans, irrespective
of their occupation, location, political affiliation, social, ethnic
or economic status. The fact that the report is highly disquieting
makes it even more essential, because the tragic and dangerous state
of our nation's health care system affects everyone: from the growing
millions who have no health care coverage at all, to those with coverage
who often face the wide gulf between the care that patients should
receive and the care that is actually delivered.
The NCHC member organizations – corporations,
unions, religious congregations, providers of medical care – and
others, representing more than 150 million Americans, have risen
above narrow self-interest to lay the groundwork for an urgently
needed overhaul of our nation's health care system.
As a member of the non-partisan National Coalition
on Health Care, the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists
applauds and supports the Coalition's remarkable blueprint for a
healthier America.
