Protect Yourself From Identity Theft

Identity theft is a fast growing crime in the United States.

Here are some tips to protect yourself:

1. Do not give financial or personal information through the mail, over the Internet or telephone, including cordless or cellular phones.

2. Shred documents and pre-approved credit applications received by mail.

3. Deposit all government checks electronically (IRS refunds, Social Security, etc.).

4. Don't use your birthday, mother's maiden name or last four digits of your Social Security number as a password.

5. Don't print Social Security or driver's license numbers on checks.

6. Don't carry your passport, Social Security card or birth certificate unless absolutely necessary.

7. Get your credit report twice a year from one of these credit reporting agencies:

     Equifax - 800-685-1111

     Experian - 888-397-3742

     Trans Union - 888-467-8688.
