June 2008 Notice of Nominations and Elections This will serve as official notification of the forthcoming nominations and elections of three LOCAL OFFICERS, three MEMBERS OF THE PHOENIX AFTRA LOCAL BOARD. The Local Officers to be elected are President, First Vice President and Treasurer, all for two-year terms. The three Local Board members are to be elected all for two-year terms. Nominations Members wishing to run as a candidate should submit your name and a short paragraph of 100 words or less stating why you would like to be considered for nomination by the nominating committee prior to June 30, 2008. The submission will be used in the brochure that accompanies the ballot, if a ballot is necessary. The nominating committee can be reached by writing: AFTRA Nominating Committee, 20325 N 51st Avenue, Ste 134, Glendale, AZ 85308; by fax 623-362-2218; or by email to phoenix@aftra.com. The Phoenix AFTRA Constitution provides that nominations may be made by nominating petition in writing signed by ten (10) members in good standing. Petitions are available by calling the AFTRA office: 623-687-9977.This petition must be submitted to the Executive Director of the Phoenix Local no later than July 30, 2008. To be eligible for nomination and to hold office you must be an active member in good standing defined as a member who is paid up in dues, initiation fees, reinstatement fees, assessments and fines as of the day that he/she signs the nominating petition. Members paying dues pursuant to an approved payment plan are considered to be in good standing. Further, to be eligible as a candidate for any Local office and/or for the National Board, a member cannot be employed as management or perform the function of management within the jurisdiction of AFTRA. Elections Voting shall be sent by secret mail ballot, provided that more than one candidate is nominated by nominating committee or by petition for any one office as prescribed herein. In the event that only one candidate is nominated for any office, and no candidate is nominated by petition, such candidate(s) shall be declared elected and ballots shall not be required. The ballots will be mailed to each active member at their current address on or about August 29, 2008. In the event you do not receive a ballot by September 5, 2008, please contact the Local office at 623-687-9977 to request a duplicate ballot. To be counted, ballots must be received in Local office no later than 5:00 p.m. on September 29, 2008. Ballots received after that date and time or ballots not mailed to the Local office will not be counted. To be eligible to vote you must be an active member in good standing, i.e., having paid dues for the period May 1, 2008 through October 31, 2008 as well as outstanding initiation fees, reinstatement fees, assessments and fines, if any, no later than August 21, 2008. Members paying dues pursuant to an approved payment plan are considered to be in good standing. The ballots will be counted on September 30, 2008.
