AFTRA members get energized and empowered at National Convention
The AFTRA 70th Anniversary National Convention is Philadelphia was an exciting gathering where more than 200 elected delegates—actors, announcers, journalists, singers, recording artists, and other categories of AFTRA members from around the country—worked together to improve the jobs and lives of members.
Here’s how AFTRA members are moving forward together through the work by delegates at the Convention:
• New partnerships with workers in other media and entertainment unions through a
direct affiliation with the AFL-CIO.
• Improved terms for the system-wide agreement with Nickelodeon Cable TV Network,
which bring substantial rate increases for Nick performers—in some cases doubling
fees—and expands programs covered under the contract to include all dramatic and
comedy variety shows.
• Increased success in bringing union standards to basic cable TV with contracts that
keep work based here in the United States for union performers.
• Extensive outreach to engage and involve members in negotiations on eight major
national agreements through 2008, including Network TV Code and Primetime
