AFTRA SUPPORTS TSUNAMI RELIEF EFFORTS

AFTRA Members around the country continue to generously and tirelessly work to assist the victims of the recent tsunami in many ways:

As reporters and anchors telling this story to the world
As performers donating their services to telethons and other fundraising efforts
With personal donations to various funds and relief organizations

To make contributions towards tsunami relief efforts, please visit the American Red Cross website.

To make contributions to affected Southeast Asian journalists and their families go to IFJ Tsunami Relief.

Unions and union members have joined millions of other Americans to help raise record amounts of donations to help the victims of the deadly tsunami that claimed more than 150,000 lives in Indonesia, Sri
Lanka, India, Thailand and other Indian Ocean nations. Donations to the AFL-CIO American Center for International Labor Solidarity's (Solidarity Center) Tsunami Relief Fund will go directly to union partners in those nations for medium and long-term reconstruction and development. To contribute, make out a check marked Tsunami Relief, payable to Solidarity Center Education Fund, and send it to Tsunami Relief Fund, Solidarity Center, 1925 K St., N.W., Suite 300, Washington, DC 20006-1105.  For more information, visit Solidarity Center.   For an additional list of relief agencies, visit the U.S. Agency for International Development

Also, Congress recently passed legislation allowing taxpayers, who make cash contributions by January 31, 2005, towards tsunami relief efforts, to treat such contributions as having been made in 2004.
