Edward Taub Joins Portland Office

Posted August 25, 2010

AFTRA National Executive Director Kim Roberts Hedgpeth announced today the appointment of Edward Taub, who is joining the AFTRA staff as National Representative/Northwest. Edward will be working out of the Portland office, and starts on August 25th.

Edward will be filling the National Representative position previously held by Wes Jones, who has been named to the position of Campaign Research Coordinator and will be working out of Philadelphia as of the end of August.

In addition to supporting AFTRA’s work of internal and external organizing and administering AFTRA’s freelance contracts in the Portland Local, the National Representative/Northwest works closely with the Seattle Local in conducting AFTRA’s work on behalf of both freelance and broadcast members in the Pacific Northwest region.

Edward is a graduate of Cornell University, and received his Masters at Duke University and his JD at Golden Gate University College of Law.  Immediately prior to joining AFTRA, Edward has been working with SEIU to develop a program to assist SEIU locals in building worksite-based union structures to maintain current members, and recruit new members, in right to work states.

Prior to his work with SEIU, Edward was a Representative for the United Faculty of Washington State (UFWS) where his duties included developing steward systems (recruiting, training, and supporting stewards), internal organizing to increase member participation in union activities, overseeing contract interpretation and enforcement and serving as lead negotiator.  During his career in the labor movement, Edward has worked in various capacities as an internal organizer, lead negotiator and contract enforcement representative for the  Oregon Federation of Nurses and Health Professionals/AFT, United Food and Commercial Workers and the Oregon School Employees Association, as well as SEIU.

Earlier in his career, Edward was an Assistant Professor at Indiana University Division of Labor Studies, where he developed and taught both credit and non-credit courses to union leaders and members.

We are pleased to have Edward join the AFTRA staff at this important time for AFTRA’s Northwest Region and the union nationwide.
