AFTRA Congratulates the 2010 Kennedy Center Honorees

Posted December 06, 2010

The people who entertain and inform America proudly congratulate all the recipients of the 2010 Kennedy Center Honors.

Five artists received this year's coveted honors, including AFTRA members Merle Haggard, Jerry Herman, Paul McCartney and Oprah Winfrey.

In addition to the extraordinary artists honored at this year's gala, top talent congregated to celebrate the honorees in what was considered one of the most musical Kennedy Center Honors. Country and Broadway performances from AFTRA members Carol Channing, Sheryl Crow, Willie Nelson and Kid Rock all paid tribute to legends Haggard and Herman, while McCartney attracted his fair share of AFTRA talent with Beatle-esque renditions from members Dave Grohl, Norah Jones, James Taylor, Steven Tyler and No Doubt. Winfrey, who primarily received spoken tributes from AFTRA members Julia Roberts, John Travolta and Barbara Walters, also received a musical tribute from Union member Jennifer Hudson.

The Kennedy Center Honors began in 1978 to recognize excellence in the arts with these annual lifetime achievement awards. The 2010 gala took place on Dec. 5 in Washington, D.C. This AFTRA-covered television program will be broadcast for the 33rd consecutive year on Dec. 28 on CBS. For more information on the John F.
